Director Pa Ranjith is gearing up to bring his next ambitious project, ‘Vettuvam,’ to theatres during the Pongal festival in January 2027. The announcement has put the film on the list of upcoming Tamil releases to watch out for. The makers shared the release update on October 30, along with the hashtag #VettuvamFromPongal. With its large cast and a story set in a different world, the project has already created curiosity among moviegoers.
Arya and Dinesh lead Pa Ranjith’s film
As confirmed by the director, ‘Vettuvam’ will arrive in theatres worldwide in January 2027, coinciding with Pongal. The film stars Arya, VR Dinesh, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Sobhita Dhulipala and Kalaiyarasan in important roles. Mime Gopi, Guru Somasundaram, John Vijay, Sai Dheena, Anand Saami, Harish Uthaman and several other actors are also part of the project. The film was first announced at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022 and has since been one of the much-awaited projects in Ranjith’s lineup. The upcoming release will also mark another interesting addition to the director’s filmography.
What Pa Ranjith’s ‘Vettuvam’ is about?
Unlike an ordinary action movie, ‘Vettuvam’ takes place in a doomsday scenario in which various groups try to assert their power and control. Conflicts, leadership issues, and various surprises in regard to these groups form the theme. They have also acquainted the audience with the setting of the film via a promotional video called ‘World of Vettuvam’. One of the highlights of this movie is the way in which it features action designs from various martial arts styles such as Adimurai and Mallakhamb. These elements are expected to give the film a distinct visual style. GV Prakash Kumar has composed the music, continuing his association with Ranjith after ‘Thangalaan.’
About ‘Vettuvam’ technical team
The technical team of ‘Vettuvam’ includes cinematographer Rupesh Shaji, editor Selva RK, art director SS Moorthy and stunt choreographer Dhilip Subbarayan. The film will release in five languages: Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. Its Pongal 2027 release announcement has also brought attention to the festive box-office race. Other Tamil films, including ‘Dharman’ and ‘Seyon,’ are also expected to release during Pongal, but their makers have not yet announced the dates.
