A supermarket worker in Michigan who confronted a social media prankster for disrupting him during work has received an outpouring of support online, with a fundraiser for him crossing $100,000.The employee, identified publicly as Walt Z, was restocking frozen pizzas at a grocery store when a content creator approached him and staged a prank involving his phone. The prankster pretended to take money from the worker, using a fake Apple Pay transaction sound to make the act appear real. The encounter quickly turned tense as the employee realised he was being filmed and objected to the stunt. He was already running late and said he had children waiting for him at home.“I’m not you recording me right now. You shouldn’t record me right now,” the worker told the prankster, according to footage circulated online. The content creator continued making light of the situation, prompting the employee to explain the pressures he was facing. He said he was struggling to pay his mortgage while supporting his four children.“You’re probably making money off this. I can’t even pay my goddamn mortgage, and I got four kids at home,” he said, adding that the prank was not funny. The worker also explained that he was supposed to have finished work an hour earlier and needed to wake up at 5 am the following morning to visit 10 more stores. He expressed concern that the confrontation could cost him his job.The video, initially shared on Instagram by an account operating under the handle @thea.ctiveworld, also known as Three Of A Kind, sparked widespread criticism. The account appeared to have been deactivated following the backlash.

Fundraiser crosses $100,000

As the video spread across social media, viewers rallied behind the worker, criticizing the prank for turning an ordinary employee’s difficult day into online entertainment.Luke Oakenshield launched a GoFundMe campaign to provide financial support to Walt and his family. The organizer said the money could offer the family some breathing room, particularly if the viral incident resulted in employment consequences.Oakenshield initially said he did not know the worker personally and was trying to locate him so the donations could reach him directly. He later confirmed that he had connected with Walt and spoken to him and his partner over a video call.In an update, the organizer said the employee and his family were overwhelmed by the public’s generosity and had requested privacy. GoFundMe was taking the lead in transferring the funds to the worker. The fundraiser had crossed $100,000 as the story gained attention, with donations continuing to arrive from people moved by the employee’s account of working long hours while trying to support his family.
