Texas Senate hopeful Democrat James Talarico impressed his Indian-American voters as he tried his hands at making a masala dosa during his campaign in Irving. He made a stop at Madira N Masala and made sure he goes viral with his act of spreading the dosa batter on the hot girdle and then packing the masala inside it and folding it. Indian-Americans who have felt targeted by the growing anti-India sentiment in Texas as Dallas is mockingly nicknamed as Dallaspuram, applauded Talarico’s video, dismissing that it is any kind of pandering and even went to the extent of predicting a Democratic win in Texas after 38 years.“All 2% Indian Americans in Texas will vote for this guy, who doesn’t hate them for just existing. In a system where candidates win by a mere 1-2% margin, a 2% vote makes a huge difference. Hispanics are already moving towards voting for democrats, and they make up 40% of Texas population,” one wrote.“Racism so bad that GOP freaks are getting triggered by this video of Talarico reaching out to the Indian community and making a popular breakfast item ‘dosa’ with them. Maybe Ken Paxton should’ve freaked out before having his minions like Sara Gonzales harass and dehumanize Indians and calling their food disgusting?” Rajeev Sharma, the co-founder of Indian-American Advocacy Council commented.University of Houston student Vasant Bhatt, who announced voting for James Talarico despite being a conservative unil now, praised the little cultural appreciation by Talarico. “James Talarico trying his hand at making dosas at an Indian restaurant. A little cultural appreciation goes a long way. Love seeing moments like this on the campaign trail,” Bhatt commented.

New controversy over Talarico

Talarico’s Senate campaign allegedly accepted $3,000 from a celebrity Muslim speaker accused of grooming female fans for sham marriages and assuring husbands that Allah would “let you get away with” wife-beating — under certain conditions. Nouman Ali Khan, founder of the Bayyinah Institute, an Islamic studies outfit boasting millions of fans on YouTube, cut the Texas Democrat three $1,000 checks, Federal Election Commission records show.

Who is leading in Texas?

James Talarico is leading in Texas so far. A new poll from the Barbara Jordan Public Policy Research and Survey Center at Texas Southern University, released Thursday, October 29, found Talarico ahead of Republican Ken Paxton, 49% to 47%. The poll surveyed 2,000 likely Texas voters between Oct. 21 and Oct. 25.
